Wayne Rooney has been fined £200,000 by Manchester United after an alcohol-fuelled night Christmas night out.
The England international was axed for The Red Devils’ 3-2 shock home defeat to Blackburn on Saturday, after his performances in training were deemed to be not up to his usual standard.
Mirror Football stipulate that Rooney, Jonny Evans and Darron Gibson have all been fined a week’s wages after the night out on Boxing Day.
The newspaper also state that Rooney is displeased with the disciplinary act, but that there is no rift between the star attacker and Sir Alex Ferguson.
The Scottish coach has always maintained that no one player is bigger than the club, and his decision to omit Rooney shows that ill-discipline will not be accepted at the Premier League leaders.
Ferguson had stated before the game against Blackburn that Rooney was absent due to minor injury concerns, and it is yet to be seen whether or not the forward will return for United’s trip to take on Newcastle on Wednesday.
