Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish has admitted that midfielder Jermaine Jenas may have ruptured his Achilles tendon, and faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The former England international move to the Midlands club on loan from Tottenham in the summer, after finding first team opportunities at White Hart Lane extremely limited.
Jenas made his third appearance of the season for Villa in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at the weekend, but had to be stretchered off in the second half of the loss.
Despite stating that it was the responsibility of Harry Redknapp’s men to clarify the extent of the blow, McLeish admitted that things were not looking good.
“I am bound by the fact Jermaine is not an Aston Villa player to reveal any news about him,” he told the club’s official website.
“We have left it in the hands of Tottenham and they will probably make a statement later on. So obviously it’s not good news.
“I think Jermaine has ruptured his Achilles and that will take some time to sort out.
“It’s for Tottenham to say what will happen as they are the parent club.
“We just hadn’t got started with him at all and it’s been very frustrating for both parties. But it must be hellish for Jermaine,” he concluded.
